The drivers of two motorcycles were seriously injured in a collision that involved a car near Prairie Lane Elementary on Springbrook Road in Pleasant Prairie Tuesday afternoon. “We heard motorcycles racing down the street,” a neighbor said. “We heard kids screaming from the school. We thought the crash happened in the school parking lot or in the schoolyard. Then we see teachers running west of the school where the accident took place,” he said. The apparent high-speed crash set one cycle on fire. Police said one of the cyclists--a 22 year-old man from Pleasant Prairie--had significant but not life-threatening injuries while the second motorcyclist--a 19-year-old Kenosha man--had less serious injuries. The driver of the car wasn't hurt. Police are still trying to piece together what happened.

A resolution that lays out proposed goals and parameters of a new commission that’ll be charged with exploring issues of racial equity in Kenosha County was approved unanimously by the leadership committee of the Kenosha County Board Tuesday night after it made a few changes. The resolution had been authored by a work group chaired by County Board Supervisor Jerry Gulley who had no objections to the alterations. He told his colleagues that the commission will give Kenosha a chance to move past last summer’s civil unrest and riots. The resolution now goes to the full county board.

The Burlington Area School District is in the process of coming up with a plan to address racism after the state Department of Public Instruction found that a racially hostile environment exists within the district. The finding was based in part on the work of a parent who documented 19 cases in recent years. Speaking on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Ideas Network Tuesday, B-A-S-D Superintendent Steve Plank said the formation of a plan will be just the starting point. “Because the real work of changing hearts and changing minds and working through attitudes and beliefs…that is a much more human experience,” Plank said. The district has already taken steps such as adopting a new reporting policy and creating student clubs where racial incidents can be raised and discussed in a safe environment.

A major redevelopment project in Kenosha’s Uptown neighborhood will be moving forward with the awarding Tuesday of federal and state tax credits. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority allocated over $800,000 in credits to the developers of a mixed-use project called Uptown Lofts. It’s spearheaded by Gorman & Company of Madison, the developer that turned the former Elk’s Club building in downtown Kenosha into a hotel and restaurant. Market manager Ted Matkom told WGTD that the Uptown project will proceed. The retail and housing complex will replace some storefronts that were damaged in last summer’s riots.

A Racine couple is facing drug charges after authorities raided their south side apartment and recovered nearly 50 pounds of marijuana, $82,000 in cash and four guns. According to a criminal complaint, 32-year-old Zamarc Williams and 25-year-old Shannon Hollimon shared the two-bedroom apartment in the 51-hundred block of Biscayne Ave. with two children, ages 6 and one-and-a-half. Charges of child neglect were also lodged. The two are being held on bonds of $25,000.

Video from a Ring doorbell gave investigators in Racine the lead they needed to make an arrest in a ‘shots fired’ incident. 23-year-old Eric Govea was arrested earlier this week after police spotted a pick-up truck that matched the description of one whose driver fired a gun from the driver’s side of the moving vehicle. According to a criminal complaint, Govea admitted firing the shots, saying he was trying to scare another driver whom he accused of trying to rip him off in a deal involving AirPods. Bond for Govea was set Tuesday at $5,000.
