Do As I Say...

(WGTD)---A Mt. Pleasant Police Department supervisor appeared to violate the often-times repeated admonition against warming up your vehicle then leaving it unattended while you go back inside to stay warm.

A sergeant had his personal vehicle stolen Thursday night while he left it running--in the parking lot of the police department.

According to allegations contained in a criminal complaint:

51-year-old Karon Watson of Chicago approached a woman in the parking lot of Target at Regency Mall and requested assistance in escaping from a domestic situation. The woman drove Watson to the Mt. Pleasant Police Dept., where she became "very scared" then walked off. The good samaritan reported the situation. At about the same time, the sergeant, who had just ended his shift, noticed that his Honda CRV was missing from the parking lot. He'd left it running for about 10 minutes.

Parking lot surveillance video captured images of a woman getting into the vehicle and leaving at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was later located in the area of Durand Ave. and Wood Rd. Watson was arrested and charged with the theft.
