Kenosha Judge Jodi Meier sentenced Derrick Matthews Friday to a prison term of seven years, exactly what the attorneys had worked out in a plea bargain for Matthews having given his sister the gun that she used to kill her ex-boyfriend. Meier agreed with the assessment by the attorneys that Donna Matthews took advantage of her brother's loyalty and love, and that the 57 year-old man acted without having all of the facts in the case. Meier also said that Derrick Matthews' history of depression and suicidal tendencies may have played a role. Donna Matthews was sentenced last month to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The former Bradford High School student who fatally stabbed another student in April of 2017 pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree murder Friday. The case has been delayed while attorneys for Timothy Carson tried unsuccessfully to keep the case in juvenile court. Both Carson and the victim were 15 at the time. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for December. Carson remains in custody.

A pair of street party-like job fairs held in Racine this summer have been deemed a success. According to surveys of employers who attended, 10 participants were hired directly from the events, while 34 received job offers. Employers also identified 100 job seekers for follow-up interviews. Because of the success of the initial two, a third job fest has been scheduled at Veterans Terrace in Burlington for Thursday, Oct. 18th from 3 until 6.
