The Kenosha City Council is expected to vote Monday night on two downtown land purchases that'll act to advance a couple of high profile projects.
One acquisition is a parcel of land at 722 57th St. that's targeted for a city parking ramp just east of the post office. Design work on the structure is being completed this year.
Another--a short distance away--is a large office building that'll give the city control of an entire block that's earmarked for a new city hall.
While there's no timetable for the latter project, the hope has always been that a developer would buy the antiquated Municipal Building. Proceeds from the sale would be used to build the replacement building.
In other downtown development news, a fifth developer has stepped forward with an interest to buy the former Barden's store, according to a development department staffer. The city has put out a request for proposals with a June 29th deadline. The city envisions retail on the first floor with residences on the second.
