Democrats aren’t letting up in using the $3 million Foxconn incentives package as a campaign issue.
This past week Senate Democratic leader Jennifer Shilling of La Crosse suggested that the Foxconn deal could be in trouble, given the pending departure from congress of Paul Ryan.
That same day, Democrats announced that they plan to hold a series of public meetings around the state to discuss what they call the “full impact” of the incentives. The first session will be held Monday night in Wausau, while the others have been scheduled for Chippewa Falls and Menasha.
Legislative Democrats in the Kenosha/Racine area all voted to support the package, albeit reluctantly.
State Senator Bob Wirch—Democrat from Kenosha--admits that these latest developments have more to do with politics than anything else. "I think this is more about winning elections than it is about changing an economic agreement," he said.
Wirch agrees with those who say that the incentives given to Foxconn to locate here were overly generous.
