"The Handbook" Wraps Up its Carthage Run Nov. 7-9

(WGTD)---Some students at Carthage College are telling the story on stage of NFL cheerleaders who sued the league for workplace violations.

“The Handbook” is a new play that has its second and final set of performances scheduled for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The lawsuits—one of which has already been settled out of court—claim the women have been cheated out of fair wages and are the victims of sexism and other forms of discrimination.

To tell the women’s stories, playwright Laura Schellhardt created a fictional team and stadium. Emulating the sights and sounds of an NFL venue was no easy task for the crew, according to the play's director, Prof. Neil Kristian Scharnick.

“The Handbook” was the topic last week of a WGTD Morning Show.

One of the plaintiffs, former Miami Dolphins cheerleader Kristan Ann Ware, will visit Carthage to talk to student-athletes on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 4 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union.
