Huge Fire in Racine Wednesday Night

A fire in Racine Wednesday night caused an estimated $100,000 dollars damage to a large two-story building at 1922 -16th Street---but---no one was injured. Around 10:45pm---the Racine County Dispatch Center got multiple 9-1-1 calls about a building on fire near 16th Street and Slauson Avenue. According to a Fire Department news release---the first arriving crews discovered flames had already burned through the roof of the building. Firefighters had to deal not only with the building on fire---but also---protecting the neighboring structures. It took the better part of an hour to extinguish the fire---with attention also given to hot spots. How the fire began remains under investigation. A police investigator was called in. The news release indicates the point of origin was a back deck---which burned away.
