Huge Hospital Merger; Wilmot HS Threat; DACA Passage Sought

Two of the largest health care providers in Wisconsin and Illinois are merging. Aurora Health Care and Advocate Health Care are merging to become Advocate Aurora Health Care, according to a news release issued Monday. The new company will operate 27 hospitals, more than 500 sites of care, and employ more than 3,300 physicians and nearly 70,000 associates and caregivers, the release says. Just a few months ago in another merger, Kenosha-based United Hospital System became United Hospital System Froedtert South.

A threatening message written on the wall of a male bathroom stall at Wilmot High School has triggered a full investigation and a message to parents. The words "shoot up the school" may have been written over the weekend, possibly at a basketball game, according to a news release from the Kenosha County Sheriff's Dept. The release says the department does not view the message as a credible threat.

A bus load of demonstrators from Racine and Milwaukee will join thousands of others in Washington this week to demand that Congress pass immigrant-rights legislation to protect the 'Dreamers'---young people who are in danger of being deported after President Trump earlier this year squashed President Obama's 'DACA'---Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals Program. Representatives of five local human rights and political action groups held a news conference Monday at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha. They're pushing for DACA legislation to be included in an appropriations bill that's being designed to keep the federal government open beyond this weekend.
