Kids' Bed-Building Group to be at Kenosha Expo Feb. 29-Mar. 1

(WGTD)---A local group that builds beds for children who don’t have them is looking for donations of both labor and money.

Mike Prudhom heads up the Kenosha/Racine chapter of the national group, “Sleep in Heavenly Peace.”

The chapter, established here in 2018, has already built and given away several hundred beds, complete with bedding.  “Building the beds is fun," said Prudhom on WGTD's Morning Show. "Most people can get into the sanding and drilling and physically actually doing the work. But the joy comes in when you see those kids’ faces. It’s a precious moment when you deliver a bed to a kid,” he said.

The beds are assembled in donated space at Bane-Nelson, Inc. on designated weekends. On other weekends they're delivered.

In addition to volunteers, the group looks for donations of materials and money. Each bed, complete with bedding, costs between $150 and $175 to build.

The chapter has a website and a Facebook page. Also, they'll be at this coming weekend's Kenosha Expo Health and Home Show at UW-Parkside.
