"Mr Racine" Award Winner Named

The non-profit that plans Fourth of July festivities in Racine has selected the first recipient of its "Mark Eickhorst Spirit of Racine Award."

He's 38 year-old Dustan Balkcom, a former manager of the Living Light Community Center and owner of Life and Oils LLC. Balkcom also created a marketing campaign titled "Ask Me Why I Love Racine."

In a news release, 4th President David Maack said that Balkcom exemplifies the spirit of the award in many ways, and is carrying on the legacy of the award's namesake, Mark Eickhorst, a fixture in the community who hosted a radio show for many years.

Said Dustan: "Racine is special to me because this is my city, because it's where I live and because I want to see Racine be a successful city. I want to see it as a place that people are excited to live in, that the poor are taken care of, that we watch out for one another."
