New Gallery Opens in Racine

Racine---An old industrial building that’s home to an eclectic mix of entrepreneurs and artists will officially open a new gallery Thursday night.

The Racine Business Center’s "Gallery on 16th" showcases the works of some two dozen of the building’s 60 or so artist/occupants.

A member of the family that owns the complex, Emily Rench Montgomery, says the new space on the second floor is larger and more easily accessed than the building’s original gallery which was located a floor above. The new gallery is best accessed by using the building's "1515" entrance.

A grand opening reception—open to the public-- is Thursday evening from from six to nine. Otherwise, the gallery is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from ten to three.

Rench Montgomery, and the woman who actually manages the gallery, Samira Gdisis, were Greg Berg’s guests on the Morning Show this week.

Gdisis also leases space in the building for her business, Black-Eyed Press.

The works currently on display in the gallery were the result of a call to produce art with a "neutral" theme. The show was curated by the gallery's summer intern, Carthage College student Coleton Keener.
