New Temporary Foster Shelters For Racine County

Pressure on Racine County’s foster care system has been eased somewhat by the addition of two new group homes. Both offer short-term foster care while more permanent placements are sought.

The owners are people who’ve spent most of their professional lives caring for at-risk children. “Peace of Mind Shelter Care” is run by Arletta Frazier-Tucker and her husband, the Rev. Myron Tucker. The other—Lesia’s Land of Love Shelter—is run by Lesia Hill Driver. Speaking on Community Matters earlier this month, the two women spoke of dealing with the challenges of their work.

Both women agree that the primary factor that leads children into their temporary shelters is drug abuse by their parents that have left them unable to provide proper care.

Both shelters are staffed by certified professionals.
