Nilay Patel, Editor-in-Chief of "The Verge", on WGTD's Generation NOW

Nilay Patel, Editor-In-Chief of "The Verge"

A Racine area native, who now runs one of the most successful websites in the world, raised concerns about the Foxconn development on Generation NOW; WGTD’s show that discusses issues facing Millennials and Generation Z hosted by WGTD’s resident millennial Troy McDonald. Millenials and Gen Z are those born after 1985.

Nilay Patel, the Editor-in-Chief of the The Verge, and former University of Wisconsin- Madison Graduate said that Foxconn’s bet on LCD’ Screens does not bode well for the future; "To build LCD's is to make a big bet on the present and not neccesarily a big bet on the future.. this is not stuff hard to understand."

Patel added that leaders of Mount Pleasant should learn how to “fail fast” encouraging them to "call it a failure as fast as you can so you can move on to the next thing, and I think that lesson in this moment would put a lot of objectivity on the table and let us try and re-think the deal."

Despite Patel's dim view of the future of the planned manufacturing and R & D complex, Foxconn CEO Terry Gou said a few days ago that he plans to attend a ground breaking ceremony at the industrial park in late June.

Patel’s website,The Verge, is one of the top websites in the world garnering millions of views per day. Vox Media, which owns website, is valued at more than $1 Billion.
