Madison---A Kenosha native who represents Dane County in the U.S House of Representatives underwent successful heart surgery Wednesday. Mark Pocan's office said the Democrat had triple bypass surgery as a "preemptive" measure and is hoping for a speedy recovery.
Racine---The $3 billion Foxconn deal will be signed Friday afternoon at S-C Johnson's world headquarters. Attendees are expected to include Gov. Walker, Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou and House Speaker Paul Ryan. The incentive package received its final approval Wednesday when the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. board voted 8-2 in support.
Racine---A former manager of Starbucks on south Green Bay Road allegedly stole over $37,000 over a three month period in part because she needed money to pay student loans and credit card debt. 29 year-old Carlin Cook was released after posting a signature bond Wednesday. According to the criminal complaint, Cook admitted to taking some daily deposits but didn't think it was as many as authorities alleged. Cook said her student loans totaled $80,000.
Kenosha Unified may soon relax its student cell phone usage policy. A committee is proposing that students be allowed to use cell phones between classes and during lunch. A recent survey of KUSD high school and middle school administrators found mixed support for the changes. At the moment, phones and other mobile devices are banned altogether during the school day, unless their usage is for instructional purposes. The matter will be discussed at a school board committee meeting Tuesday night.
Kenosha's municipal bus service is dropping one of the routes it recently created to primarily serve businesses and industries along I-94 and in Pleasant Prairie's Lakeview Corp. Park. The city announced Wednesday that runs to Kenosha Beef west of I-94 will be eliminated as of Dec. 20th. Low ridership is to blame. The city recently expanded bus service after getting permission to fund it with a federal grant that had originally been appropriated for streetcar expansion.
Pleasant Prairie---A two-day search for a man who's been missing for six months failed to turn up any clues. Last week a cadaver dog gave a positive sign for 41 year-old Michael Wyatt while sniffing at the edge of a pond located in a secluded area near the family's home. A dive team was called in, and a wide area around the pond was searched, but nothing came of it.
