Proposed Settlement in KUSD Transgender Suit Up For Board Debate

It appears as if the U-S Supreme Court won't decide Whitaker v. Kenosha Unified after all.

The school district has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday evening to vote on a proposed settlement in the case of a transgender student who filed a lawsuit against the district because he couldn't use the restroom of his new sexual identity.

Ash Whitaker, who has since graduated, won a series of court battles, leading the district to decide to appeal to the nation's highest court.

Attorneys for Whitaker couldn't immediately be reached. A spokesperson for the district said Unified attorneys might issue a statement Tuesday night.

The meeting notice indicates that the school board will first meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in closed session, then reconvene in open session at 8 p.m. for a "possible vote on a settlement in the Whitaker v. KUSD litigation."
