Racine Symphony Announces Winners of Young Artists' Competition

          The Racine Symphony Orchestra has announced the winners of its 2017 Young Artists’ Competition. Talented high school age instrumental music students hailing from throughout Southeastern Wisconsin competed in this annual event during the afternoon of Sunday, February 12 at First Presbyterian Church.

           First place winner, Matthew Udry, performed Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor, movement 1. Kyle Pearl, also a cellist, came in second with his presentation of Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor. Katiann Nelson earned third place with her rendition of Von Weber’s Concertino. Udry and Pearl are students at Kenosha Tremper High School; Nelson is a student at Waterford Union High School.  Last year Mr. Udry placed second in the Young Artists’ Competition. All three winners are receiving scholarship money.

            Mr. Udry will entertain with his winning performance at the Racine Symphony Orchestra’s Season Finale Masterworks Concert on April 8, 2017 at 7:30 pm. To be held at UW-Parkside’s Frances Bedford Concert Hall, this Concert will also feature students participating in our Side-by-Side Youth Invitational.

            The Young Artists’ Competition is supported by Woodman’s Markets and the Kiwanis Club of West Racine.  This project is funded in part by Potawatomi Hotel and Casino’s Heart of Canal Street Program.
