Gov. Evers Tours Gateway; Signs an Order on Healthcare Worker Retention and Recruiting

(WGTD)---Gov. Evers signed an order Monday that creates a task force to study ways to recruit and retain healthcare workers. He then visited three technical colleges, including Gateway in Kenosha.

Evers toured a wing in the Inspire Center at Gateway that’s dedicated to health care worker training and features mannequin-like patient simulators. He also spoke with several students.

Speaking to reporters, Evers noted that a shortage of healthcare workers is expected to grow in the coming years. "It looks like a 20,000 shortage in a few years," he said. "So we have to prepare and be ready. The last thing we need to have fail is our healthcare system."

Lt. Gov. Rodriguez will chair the panel. She has plenty of experience in the health care industry as both a nurse and as a healthcare executive.

Evers said he hopes that funding to implement any suggestions that might come out of the task force can be incorporated into the next budget bill.
