(WGTD)---Racine’s second federally qualified health center opened for business Wednesday.
Outreach Community Health Centers is located in an office building on the Ascension All Saints Hospital campus on Spring Street. As a federally subsidized clinic, Milwaukee-based Outreach is open to all, regardless of ability to pay.
Outreach, however, could not be considered as a substitute for health insurance, according to Outreach Community Health Centers C-E-O Julia Harris Robinson. "We're a community clinic and if we have to refer you out for a specialist service then that's outside our services and that's not going to be covered," she said, citing an x-ray as an example.
Harris Robinson said her agency is a strong advocate for the continuation of the Affordable Care Act subsidies that were cut by Congress.
Racine’s first subsidized primary health clinic opened last year in the basement of Julian Thomas Elementary. It will eventually relocate to the new, nearby Lincoln-King Community Center that’s under construction.
Outreach is currently taking appointments for its Racine clinic at Ascension at 262-506-1695.
The clinic plans to eventually add to its primary care services by expanding to include behavioral health and dental services.
