Abused Baby Allegedly Injured Again in Foster Care

Racine---A foster parent who apparently became overwhelmed with child-rearing was charged with child abuse Thursday.

A cash bond of $1,500 was set for 44 year-old Sean McIntosh. According to the criminal complaint, McIntosh and his wife had been taking care of a five month-old baby who’d been the subject of prior abuse and may have had a brain injury.

After his wife went to work one afternoon last month, McIntosh was left to care for the baby and another foster child, age five. The baby started to fuss and wouldn’t calm down. That’s when McIntosh, by his own admission, shook the baby four or five times.

The next day, the baby appeared to be experiencing seizures.  Rescue was called. A doctor at Children’s Hospital diagnosed a set of new injuries.

The following day, McIntosh spoke to investigators and purportedly confessed.

According to online court records, McIntosh was convicted of misdemeanor battery some 18 years ago and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. The circumstances of that incident weren’t immediately clear.
