(WGTD)---Despite a restructuring, a company that was formed in Racine 110 years ago is not abandoning the city.
That's according to a spokesperson for a Michigan company that's acquiring part of Modine Manufacturing.
Gentherm is acquiring Modine's automotive and commercial-vehicle business in a $1 billion deal. Gentherm will retain the Modine name but will transfer administrative functions currently performed in Racine to Michigan.
Meanwhile, Modine's fast-growing division serving data centers and commercial HVAC and refrigeration customers will operate under the name of Modexus Solutions.
A spokesperson says Modexus will be headquartered on the Modine campus in Racine, but will eventually be relocated to an unnamed location somewhere in southeast Wisconsin. That location, however, is not expected to be Franklin, where Modexus will operate a manufacturing facility with 300 employees.
What'll be left in Racine?
Gentherm says it'll maintain a "significant" presence in Modine Performance Technologies' current locations, including its Racine Technical Center. "Racine remains an important location for the business and will continue to have a meaningful presence going forward, including through the Racine Technical Center and the broader southeastern Wisconsin workforce," the spokesperson says. "We have not announced any changes to employment levels in Racine and remain focused on supporting employees, serving customers, and maintaining business continuity."
