Charges Filed in a Driveway Seal-Coating Scam

Aug. 18, 2025 8:15p

(WGTD)---Pleasant Prairie Police tripped up some suspected scammers last month before they had a chance to rip off a resident, but the Chicago-area men were released before charges were filed because additional investigation was needed.

Now arrest warrants have been issued for the men on charges of conspiracy to commit theft and false representation stemming from an alleged bogus driveway seal-coating scam. The men are suspected in a series of incidents in Illinois in which sub-standard work was performed for exorbitant charges.

According to the criminal complaint, a Skokie police detective on July 12th came across an Instagram video shot by one of the suspects showing him and his associates to be at a home in Pleasant Prairie. Police rushed over and caught the men before the resident turned over any money.

The suspects were photographed and fingerprinted before they were released. The case was turned over to a Pleasant Prairie detective for follow-up.
