Chicken Palace Owner Recounts Fatal Shooting; RPD Confirms a Third Weekend Shooting Injured 2

Nov. 3, 2025 5p

(WGTD)---The owner of an Uptown neighborhood chicken restaurant was behind the counter when a gunman walked in late Sunday afternoon and started shooting.

Marcela Rodriguez tells WGTD that some two dozen shots were fired, and that the gunman appeared to target the man who was hit. Police said that man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the hospital.

"I see the gun and I told everybody go to the floor and I went to the floor too," she said.

Rodriguez said the gunman had his face covered. She wasn't sure who the customer was who died.

Monday afternoon, Rodriguez pointed to bullet holes in the restaurant that she and her late husband bought five years ago. Some of the damage had already been repaired.

The restaurant is located next to a gas station in the 1100 blk. of Washington Ave.

The homicide was the second of the weekend in Racine. Early Saturday morning near West Park, a 26-year-old man was shot and later died.

On Monday, police disclosed that two people were injured in a non-fatal shooting that occurred near the Chicken Palace Sunday around 1:30 a.m. One person suffered a gunshot wound to the leg while another sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said both victims--a 46-year-old man and a 42-year-old man--were taken to the hospital for treatment.

A department spokesperson said Monday that it was too early to say whether any of the shootings were connected.
