(WGTD)---As the executive director of Kenosha’s Shalom Center says, “Homelessness has no season.” Kenosha and Racine’s general population, full-service homeless shelters run at near full capacity year 'round.
Kenosha’s Shalom Center—82 bed capacity-- and Racine’s HALO—120 beds-- offer lodging to individuals and families for an average of between 30 and 90 days.
A host of services are offered at both facilities. These include connecting residents with job-search skills and training, children’s programming, cooking facilities and/or prepared meals, information on community social services, and other classes. Both organizations share the goal of transitioning the families and individuals intro traditional housing and creating a stable environment.
Both the Shalom Center and HALO are in need of volunteers, particularly in the area of food handling and meal preparation.
The executive directors of HALO and the Shalom Center were guests on Community Matters.
