(WGTD)---The pastor of a Kenosha church is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled parishioner in his office.
48 year-old Curtiss Tolefree made his first court appearance Tuesday on a pair of counts of 2nd degree sexual assault. Bond was set at $50,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Tolefree allegedly had sexual contact with the 29-year-old woman on four occasions inside the Greater Mt. Hebron Kingdom Cathedral Church on the corner of 20th Ave. and 75th St. The woman has the mental capacity of an eight or nine year-old, according to her parents. The woman later tried to kill herself after telling her story, the complaint said.
The woman's parents told investigators they had become concerned over time because Tolefree appeared to be trying to isolate their daughter from her friends and family and had frequent social media contact with her.
The new charges come after a 2019 sexual assault case was dismissed last fall. The purported victim--a former Bradford High School student-- apparently didn't want to testify and couldn't be located. Tolefree was serving as an administrator at the school at the time.
