Director of "The Alan E. Guskin Center for Business & Community Partnerships" at UW-P Plans Retirement

June 12, 2025 noon

(WGTD)---2025 has been a year of reorganization at UW-Parkside.

The school revealed last week that it’s consolidating the administration of its academic schools.

In addition, Parkside has created a new office called the “Hub for Partnerships and Workforce Innovation.”

That office will swallow up the current “Alan E. Guskin Center for Business and Community Engagement.” The center is named after a former chancellor who in his early years helped to develop the Peace Corps. It administers internships and provides support to non-profit agencies, among other things.

The new office will do all that and more, including exploring research partnerships with local businesses and non-profits, and offer workforce training.

The consolidation and expansion come at a time when the long-time director of the office for Business and Community Engagement, Debra Karp, is retiring. Speaking on WGTD’s Morning Show, Karp endorsed the changes. "I'm not going to be involved in that process but I have complete confidence in all of the people who are involved. My team is an amazing group of people," she said. "The vision (for the hub) I think is really strong. I think it's going to be a good thing."

In retirement, Karp plans to remain in the area.
