Update: Driver has been identified as Michael Alayan Forero, 25

(WGTD)---In pre-dawn darkness in Brighton Friday morning, a driver was killed when his car slammed into a cow that had gotten loose.

The accident happened at 4:50 a.m. on County Trunk JB between highways 83 and 75.

According to Kenosha County Sheriff's Dept. Sgt. Colin Coultrip, the driver, in his mid 20s, crested a hill, braked hard but couldn't avoid hitting the animal. The car--a Honda sedan--continued on for a couple hundred feet, smashed through a fence and came to rest in a cornfield.

The victim is believed to have died almost instantly in his heavily-damaged vehicle, Coultrip said.

Although the broken fence allowed other cows to escape, no other accidents occurred.

The crash was heard by a resident who called 911.

The cow died upon impact.

No immediate word on how the cow was able to escape.
