(WGTD)---The company that manages Festival Hall and Memorial Hall for the City of Racine appears to be the lead contender for a contract to manage the recently-restored Southport Beach House in Kenosha. 5Kevents submitted a detailed proposal to the city.
The 12-page offer is included in back-up material for Monday night's meeting of the city’s Licenses and Permits Committee. The company is seeking a beer and wine license.
5Kevents is proposing to manage rentals of the Beach House and possibly establish a café with beverages and a light food menu. 5K envisions the place being used for weddings, graduation parties, banquets, corporate events and the like.
The company says that while it’s willing to invest in preventative maintenance, routine cleaning and minor repairs, 5K also wanted the city to make some relatively minor modifications, such as replacing a set of rotten doors on the lower level, making sure a garage door on the building is functioning properly and installing an electrical hook-up for food trucks.
5Kevents—led by Patrick Flynn of Racine—took over Racine’s sagging Festival Hall and Memorial Hall about a year and a half ago. Since then, they’ve spruced up both places and aggressively marketed the facilities.
Kenosha recently stuck millions of dollars into restoring the Art Deco-styled beach house in Southport Park on the city’s south side.
The search for a vendor to manage the place was launched several months ago.
The city council has yet to award a contract.
