First Residents of the Karrick Are Officially Welcomed

(WGTD)---Rentals in downtown Kenosha’s newest, high-rise apartment building are running slightly ahead of schedule.

The 158-unit, five-story Karrick opened last week.

The property manager says 14 tenants will have moved in by the end of this week. 20% of the apartments have already been pre-leased. Rents range from 15-hundred for a studio to 25-hundred for a three-bedroom.

The building features a fitness center and a pair of community rooms, one with a commercial kitchen that opens out to a second floor courtyard with a fire pit. The other one—on the top floor—has an outdoor deck with views of the downtown area and the lake.

Nicholas Beard is a Great Lakes Naval employee who moved in from Chicago in part to be closer to the base. "I love it," Beard said Wednesday after he and another new tenant were presented 'welcome-to-Kenosha' baskets by Visit Kenosha, Mayor Dave Bogdala and his mother, Linda Bogdala. "It's calm and peaceful. It's like a hotel. The neighborhood is nice and I think there are a lot of things to do in the vicinity," he said.

Mayor Bogdala confirmed that construction could possibly begin this year on an even larger apartment building just to the north, and two-dozen condos to the northeast along Sixth Ave.

The larger apartment building is expected to be seven stories tall and have 210 units.

The new buildings represent the first phase of a nine-block, downtown redevelopment plan that was unveiled some 10 years ago.
