(WGTD)---A mid-January gun battle between rival gang members in Mt. Pleasant has resulted in the arrest of eight suspects.
The arrests were made as officers from eight agencies with search warrants converged on 10 locations in Racine and Mt. Pleasant this week. According to a news release from Mt. Pleasant Police, the massive operation netted 23 guns and quantities of crack cocaine and THC.
The ages of those arrested range from 21 to 32.
Most are already familiar with the judicial system. The news release said three of the suspects are either convicted felons or are former adjudicated delinquents and are prohibited from possessing firearms. Three have pending criminal cases. Another three have valid concealed carry permits.
According to the criminal complaint, rival gang members in the early morning hours of January 18th wound up crowded inside Snap's Fish, Chicken & More in the 2100 block of Racine St. One patron pushes another then the guns come out.
Gunfire erupts outside of the restaurant. One person is shot in the leg while bullets rip through a passing vehicle. The driver wasn't injured.
The agencies involved in the raids and arrests this week included the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Marshals Service.
