Hail and Wind Storm Causes Widespread Damage; More Storms Possible Friday

May 15, 2025 9:30p; Updated number of We Energies customers without power at 10p

(WGTD)---A line of storms that moved through the WGTD listening area Thursday evening left some without power and others assessing hail stone damage to vehicles, windows and roofs. Another round of strong storms--with more hail--is possible for Friday.

According to the We Energies Outage map, over 11,000 customers in Kenosha and Racine counties lost power. On Mt. Pleasant's far east side near the former Case tractor plant and foundry site, one power pole was snapped in half and two others were left leaning precariously over the street.

Widespread hail damage was reported. Hail stones the size of quarters were common. In the Waterford area, they were as large as tennis balls.

Tree damage was reported in some parts, especially on Racine's northeast side and into the Wind Point/North Bay areas.

The Racine Zoo says it'll be closed on Friday to facilitate the clean-up. The Kenosha County-owned Brighton Dale Links golf course will be closed at least until noon, according to a note from the county.

Another round of storms is possible Friday evening. The National Weather Service says damaging winds and large hail are possible. Till then, it's expected to be windy and warm with highs in the 70s.
