KELA Graduates 1st Summer 'STEM Works' Class

Aug. 6, 2025 10p

(WGTD)---Although the graduating class was small, it was a big first step for the Kenosha Emerging Leaders Academy, the city-owned training and youth development center in Uptown.

Five students completed a four-week STEM course that included lessons on basic hand tool safety, industrial robotics, multimeter usage and 3D printing.

Graduate Marcus Hill, who'll be a junior this fall in the engineering track at nearby LakeView Technology Academy, said he was already familiar with much of the hardware. By taking the class, however, Hill and the other students earned valuable certificates for use on their resumes.

The students also networked with representatives from Snap-On in Kenosha and Spectrum Plastics in Pleasant Prairie.

Hill said his post-high school goal is to attend UW-Madison and continue his studies.

The "STEM Works" class at KELA was offered in partnership with the Kenosha YMCA and Gateway Technical College.
