Kenosha: Shirl's To Reopen Under a New Name; Another Business Planned for the Mac's Deli Building

Sept. 14, 2025 6:30p

(WGTD)---A businessman with a history of creating profitable restaurants in Kenosha is in the process of filling two empty spaces.

Dino Katris plans to re-open Shirl's Drive-In and Restaurant on south Sheridan Road with a similar menu but under a new name: MelKat's. The old Shirl's has sat vacant for several years.

Then on 52nd St., Katris has acquired the building that housed Mac's Deli for decades. That'll become a new outlet for a Racine woman's business. Yogi's Pud'n is currently available at a couple of locations in Racine. Owner Yolonda Blair tells WGTD she plans to be open initially at the new Kenosha location Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6. The grand opening is set for Oct. 4th.

Katris is the former owner of La Fogata and the Waterfront Warehouse on north Sheridan Road and El Camino on Highway 50.

Katris recently took over Yees Oriental Inn in the Harborside neighborhood after the owner retired.
