KUSD Staff and Administrators Discuss Racial Bias

Dr. Sue Savaglio-Jarvis, at "Courageous Conversations Overcoming Racial Bias in Education"

Over 100 people gathered at the Kenosha Civil War Museum Monday Night to discuss racial bias in KUSD schools. The panel discussion, organized by the Coalition for Dismantling Racism among other local groups, featured area leaders including KUSD superintendent Dr. Sue Savaglio-Jarvis. Administrators from Indian Trail, Harborside Academy, Wilson Elementary. Leaders from other schools were also present.

The panel discussed how it plans to close the achievement gap among black and white students in the district as well as hire, train, and recruit minority teachers. KUSD is now a minority-majority district; over 50 percent of the district’s students are non-white. However, more than 90 percent of the teachers and staff in the district are white.
