Nov. 22, 2019 2:15p; Updated 3:31p to reflect that action on splitting city departments not yet final

(WGTD)---A Mahone Middle School student was arrested Thursday after he allegedly threatened to commit a shooting at the school and was later discovered to have access at home to a semi-automatic rifle. It's the latest in a string of school threats cases that were investigated by Kenosha police over the past two weeks. In the Mahone incident, police were tipped off by someone who saw the 13-year-old holding the gun in a video posted on social media. While the gun was recovered, police later determined that the teen didn't have access to ammunition. Nor did he take the gun to school. In a separate incident, two students were overheard threatening to set off an explosive device at school. Police determine that neither had access to explosives or weapons. In another case, a student was found to be in possession of a pocket knife after having made threats. The fourth incident involved a student threatening to shoot another. An airsoft gun was later recovered. In a news release, police urged parents to talk to their kids about the seriousness of making threats.

The proposed two-year contract for part-time employment includes a pay rate of a little over $50 an hour. Mayor Antaramian is proposing to separate the functions of the Communtiy Development and Inspections Department by forming the new department and hiring Morrissey. Morrissey retired as chief in 2016 after serving 8 years in that position. In all, Morrissey spent over 26 years with the department.
