Microsoft Updates Plans for Mt. Pleasant

Sept. 18, 2025 12:30p

(WGTD)---Microsoft has put a price tag and a time frame on construction of the second phase of its data center campus in Mt. Pleasant.

The second data center, which will be similar in size and scale to the first one, will cost about $4 billion and should be completed by the end of 2028.

The first phase is to be completed next year.

About 800 workers are expected to be hired in the next three years to staff both centers. That's in addition to the thousands of construction workers that are expected to be kept busy through 2028.

The total value of the development, as outlined, is expected to be over $7 billion.

A training opportunity for people interested in working at Microsoft has opened at Gateway Technical College. The school is offering a certificate that includes four classes taken over the course of a year.
