(WGTD)---Less than a week after the LGBT Center of Southeast Wisconsin closed unexpectedly, a new organization is taking root to serve the needs of the L-G-B-T-Q community and other demographics in the Racine/Kenosha area.
The new group is called "The People's Center." The new organization, made up of many of the same people that were involved in the defunct center, is in the process of building a website, re-establishing youth programming and lining up community partners to secure meeting spaces. A Facebook page has already been created.
The release emphasizes the new service will do a better job of reaching out to BIPOC community members. That's an acronym for Black, Indigenous and People of Color.
Meantime, questions remain over just why the LGBT Center closed and whether the group's assets are being protected. The Center's executive director and four board members aren't talking.
