New 'Habitat' Home Dedicated in Kenosha Friday; 1 of 4 to be Finished This Year

May 11, 2024 12:40p

(WGTD)---The Kenosha chapter of Habitat for Humanity is as busy as ever.

The city is in the process of transferring to the home-building group three vacant lots north of the Boys and Girls Club. The tax delinquent properties were obtained from the county.

The three homes are among six that Habitat plans to start building over the next 12 months, according to Habitat-Kenosha director Angela Elliot.

Four homes will be completed this year, including one in which the buyer received the keys to on Friday.

The home's design was created by Candice Fox, a Gateway Technical College student.

Habitat uses donations and mostly volunteer labor to build new single-family homes on lots that are deeded by the city. In addition, there’s a requirement that the eventual owner put in a measure of ‘sweat’ equity.
