(WGTD)---The 200 megawatt solar farm in the Town of Paris is now complete.
The site began producing power last December, but the battery park went online this week. It's the state's first large-scale energy storage project, according to park co-owner We Energies.
The storage facility is made up of batteries capable of powering more than 130,000 homes for four hours, according to a news release. On sunny days, the batteries store excess power and release it at night or in the early morning when the sun is not shining, the release says.
The town has become an energy-exporter. In addition to the solar farm, We Energies has a natural gas-fired 'peaker' plant in Paris and just recently got approval to build another over the objection of environmentalists.
