(WGTD)---The Racine School Board took the highly unusual step Monday night of censuring one of its own.
Using a fake name earlier this year, board member Michael Bellagio made a profane social media post against five women, including Racine County Democratic Party Kelly Gallaher, two reporters and State Rep. Angelina Cruz. Bellagio is running against Cruz this November.
Monday night's vote in favor of a resolution to publicly censure Bellagio was unanimous and came without discussion, although the topic was on the agenda of a closed meeting held two weeks ago. Bellagio was absent from Monday night's meeting.
The resolution accuses Bellagio of violating several policies with disparaging posts it says embarrassed the district and other board members. If such behavior was committed by a student, the resolution pointed out, the student would be disciplined.
The resolution did not specifically call out the post Gallaher had complained about.
The censure carries little practical weight, although the resolution will be included in the minutes of the meeting.
