Racine Tavern Faces Scrutiny as a 'Nuisance' Property

Dec. 10, 2025 8:30

(WGTD)---A downtown tavern has landed on Racine's list of nuisance properties.

According to a news release from the city, Mahoffers on Main has racked up more than 50 police calls since it opened in July of this year.

Several of the incidents were categorized as serious and required what was termed a "significant" police response.

The calls included fights, disorderly conduct and loud music complaints.

At a recent city council meeting, several former employees showed up to complain publicly about the management. In turn, a manager accused some of those former employees who spoke of stealing from the bar.

The nuisance designation sets in motion a process that requires the owner to come up with an abatement plan.

The city previously announced that three apartment buildings have been identified as nuisances. They include Mitchell Wagon Factory Lofts, the Arcade Apartments and McMynn Towers.
