(WGTD)---What timing. On the first truly hot day of the year, Kenosha's two municipal pools opened as scheduled Tuesday.
And there's a bonus: Unlike in the past several summers, enough lifeguards have been recruited so the pools at Washington and Anderson parks will be fully staffed and will be open simultaneously, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 to 5:45, with the exception of July 4th.
A lifeguard shortage had limited operating hours to one pool at a time.
Kenosha Mayor Dave Bogdala attributed the hiring success to several factors, including raising the pay of lifeguards and launching a multi-pronged recruiting campaign that included a strong social media presence. Going to the high schools sooner rather than later also paid off, he said. Bogdala praised the city council for approving the pay increase.
In addition to the pools, Kenosha offers splash pads that are open daily at Anderson Park, Southport Marina Park and at Horizon and Schulte parks. The Horizon Park splash pad is new.
There's more information about the pools and the splash pads on the city's website.
