(WGTD)---Kenosha police have released dramatic dash-cam video of a shootout on a city street Sunday night with a homicide suspect.
45 year-old Adam Threlkeld allegedly fatally shot 33 year-old Antero Medina inside Shenanigan's Tavern on 52nd St. then fled.
Police caught up with him a few blocks away. That's when Threlkeld started firing at them as they drove up. The video shows the suspect and an officer appearing to trade shots as the officer exits his squad and crouches behind it for cover. Threlkeld can be seen boldly walking across the intersection in front of the squad as a barrage of gunfire rings out. Threlkeld falls to the ground.
Threlkeld is hospitalized in stable condition with undisclosed wounds. The officer in the video wasn't hurt. Nor was a second officer who reportedly fired their gun. Both officers are on leave as the investigation continues.
At a news conference Monday afternoon, Chief Patrick Patton said more than luck was involved in the officers being able to avoid injury. "This was not luck. This was about officers putting in work on the front end--training--and becoming the best possible responders they can for this community," he said. "We couldn't be more proud of them."
Patton said he couldn't say what led to the confrontation in Shenanigan's, or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
Threlkeld was to have appeared in a Milwaukee courtroom Monday to discuss a "non-compliant" report from a drug treatment court. According to court records, Threlkeld had struck a deferred prosecution agreement on charges of criminal damage to property and battery or threats that involved a judge or a law enforcement officer.
Meanwhile, Racine police are still investigating an unrelated murder that took place within minutes of the Kenosha homicide. 27 year-old Koreem Ozier, a former professional basketball player, was shot in the chest following an altercation at 12th St. and South Memorial. Ozier graduated from Case High School in 2017 as the school's all-time leading scorer. He went on to play in college and overseas.
A complimentary Racine Journal Times story in 2017 praised Ozier for choosing a path in life that deviated from aspects of his tumultuous upbringing. Ozier's father was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a triple murder. A close cousin received a ten-year prison sentence for another shooting.
In a third incident involving a death over the weekend, 22 year-old Adasia Jones of Mt. Pleasant was charged Monday with Homicide by the Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle after she allegedly ran over her boyfriend, 26 year-old Darius Allen. According to the criminal complaint, Jones told police that Allen had tried to choke her early Sunday then jumped on the hood of her car to prevent her from leaving. Jones drove off with Allen on the hood. He fell to the pavement. Jones said she returned to check on Allen and didn't see him in the road. In court Monday, several domestic violence-related charges that had been filed against Allen were dismissed because the defendant was deceased.
