Solar Project to be Contemplated by the Racine School Board

July 6, 2025 8:30p

(WGTD)---Racine Unified might expand its solar footprint.

Four schools that are currently part of the 2020 facilities expansion referendum would be in line for solar installations under a proposal to be discussed by the school board Monday night. They are Case, Goodland Montessori, Walden III and Gifford K-8.

According to school board documents, the project will cost $5.2 million but result in an annual savings of utility costs of $300,000.

Some incentives and grants could offset the cost.

The four schools that were selected for the program fit a set of criteria that were established by the district.

Solar panels have already been installed at the new Schulte K-8 and at Red Apple K-8.
