Standoff Subject Dies; Motorcycle Fatality Named; Hawthorn Hollow Theft Suspect Appears in Court

The subject of a nearly day-long police standoff in Racine on Tuesday has died. 51-year-old Johnny Williams had shot himself after refusing to leave a home in the 1100 blk. of Reschke Ave. The standoff was triggered after Williams apparently shot 48-year-old Charmeka Flowers in a domestic violence incident. She died later.

A motorcyclist who died in a collision with a vehicle in Racine at the intersection of Racine St. and 21st St. has been identified as a 29-year-old man, James Felix of Racine. The driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old man, is said to be cooperating with investigators.

A 45-year-old Racine man allegedly attacked a man who had just gotten out of prison for killing his brother. The incident happened late last month at Kayla's Bar on Lathrop Ave. . Walter Wilson, Jr. has been charged with mayhem and aggravated battery. According to the criminal complaint, Wilson struck the victim in the face with a glass, causing a large cut and a large loss of blood. The laceration required numerous stitches and the victim had to be placed in a medically-induced coma for a time. Wilson purportedly told investigators that the man had been harassing his family since his release from prison.

The cause of a fire that damaged the vacant Flat Iron Mall on Douglas Ave. in Racine is under investigation. Firefighters were summoned early Wednesday morning and found a large amount of fire on the outside of the building near the back entrance. Damage was listed at $50,000.

A 69-year-old Racine man, Clyde DeGroot, has been charged in connection with the theft of money from donation boxes at the Hawthorn Hollow Nature Center in Somers. An examination of security camera video led to the arrest.
