(WGTD)---The Racine Water Utility says it's aware of taste and odor problems with the water, and has taken action.
In a social media post, the utility says a musty smell is due to a Lake Michigan seasonal phenomenon brought on by increased water temperatures, along with the increase in natural organic matter. The problem, however, is surfacing earlier than normal.
The utility says it's temporarily increased the dosage of an oxidizer that's used to combat taste and odor issues.
It emphasizes that the water is safe to drink, based on continual testing that takes place at the plant and in the distribution system.
