Hawthorn Hollow grew out of love for the land. As a nature sanctuary and arboretum, Hawthorn Hollow has been connecting people and nature through environmental education for more than 50 years. Walking trails invite visitors to explore a 12-acre arboretum, the woodlands of the Pike River Valley, prairies, gardens, and historic buildings of Somers’ past.
Hawthorn Hollow is owned and operated by the Hyslop Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501 c3 organization formed in 1964.
Our mission is to cultivate appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of our natural and local heritage through environmental education and sanctuary preservation.
Admission for individuals into Hawthorn Hollow is always free and open to the public. As a nonprofit organization, donations are always gratefully accepted. Donate here!
Nature Sanctuary Etiquette
Please help preserve this sanctuary by observing the following rules:
- Be mindful of the serene atmosphere, it is a place for the study and appreciation of nature.
- No active sports or games (biking, jogging, skiing, ball games, fishing, etc).
- Please leave flowers and plants for everyone to enjoy. Do not collect or remove plants, seeds, flowers, leaves, or any other natural materials.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult. Connect with nature together.
- Walk on marked trails and mowed lawn only, and please refrain from climbing on trees and shrubs.
- Pets are not allowed. Service dogs only.
- Picnicking is prohibited.
- Reservations are required for groups larger than 10.
