We have two interviews related to the so-called Harvey Girls. The term refers to the women who worked in the restaurants and hotels operated by Fred Harvey beginning in the late 19th century. (You may be acquainted with the popular MGM movie musical of the same name starring Judy Garland.) We begin with writer Juliette Fay, the author of a wonderful new novel titled "The Harvey Girls"- which centers on the experience of two women who become Harvey Girls for very different reasons- one to help her financially struggling parents- the other escaping an abusive marriage. The second interview is with Andrew DeBoer (father-in-law of local musician and music teacher Jessica DeBoer) who has collected memorabilia of the Fred Harvey company for many many years.
