Racine---A burglary suspect who appeared in court Thursday issued an apology right along with a confession.
44 year-old Juan Antonio-Rodriguez is accused of breaking into a Sturtevant home Wednesday. The burglar's efforts were interrupted when the homeowner returned to see his garage door open and a stranger running out of the house. He dialed 911.
According to the criminal complaint, the first officer to arrive in the neighborhood spotted a man running down the middle of the street toward a car and getting in.
With officers in pursuit, Antonio-Rodriguez then led officers on a high-speed chase that ended in a bank parking lot with the suspect being taken into custody.
Upon questioning, the suspect confessed to the attempted burglary and also apologized to the victim. "Sir," he wrote, "I know at this point this statement means nothing but I would like you to know I apologize...I would like you to know I will not fight charges so that you don't have to be involved in a legal situation that can cause more stress in your life and your home. I did it. I'm sorry."
Antonio-Rodriguez' record includes several property crimes.
The new charges include fleeing, endangering safety, burglary and bail jumping. Bond was set Thursday at $10,000
