Application Deadline for Racial and Ethnic Equity Commission is Extended

(WGTD)---The deadline for volunteers to apply for a seat on the Kenosha County Racial and Ethnic Equity Commission has been extended.

Anyone interested in one of the three available seats must now apply before the end of the week. The deadline was extended by seven days because the applicant pool was small, according to a news release from the office of Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman, the person responsible for making the appointments.

Just two of the 7 citizen-seats are currently filled.

Resolutions to approve two appointments that were made previously by Kerkman are in the pipeline. The nominations of Xavier Solis and Albert Gonzales are scheduled to be considered Thursday night by the County Board's Executive Committee. Those two appointments have drawn flak. Solis represented the foundation that raised bail money for Kyle Rittenhouse while Gonzales fired the gun that killed Michael Bell, and opposed the creation by the county of a diversity coordinator.

The make-up of the commission is prescribed by the resolution that created the panel. Five of the seven volunteers must represent racial and ethnic minorities in the county.

The two remaining members of the nine-member commission are appointed by the county board chairman.
