Arctic Air On Way; Sanders Due in Kenosha; Firehouse Loan Announcement

Once the snow passes, arctic cold will be the next weather worry. A cold front that's expected to move through on Tuesday will lead to the season's first night-time, sub-zero readings in southeast Wisconsin. Tuesday and Wednesday nights are expected to be the worst, with temperatures dropping to near or just below zero. Daytime highs are forecast to be in the low teens. It'll even get a few degrees colder on Thursday before temperatures moderate for Friday and  the weekend.

Kenosha---Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is expected to be in Kenosha Monday afternoon to participate in a forum on trade and other economic issues in the aftermath of the presidential election. The MSNBC program will be taped at UAW Local 72 headquarters beginning at 2 p.m. for broadcast Monday night on the cable network. The program will include participation by an audience, but the deadline for applying for tickets passed Saturday night. Program producers said Sunday that they're working on creating an overflow room at Local 72 where people can watch the program on monitors while it's being taped.

Kenosha---The status of the city's request for a federal loan to help build a new fire station is the topic of an appearance in Kenosha Monday morning by the Midwest administrator of the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. Antonio Riley is expected to appear with Mayor Antaramian and incoming Fire Chief Charles Leipzig, Jr. at the Fire Administration Building on 60th St. The construction project involves demolishing the former Bain Elementary building at 52nd St. and 22nd Ave. with the new fire house, then closing two existing fire stations. To remain open, one of them needs $200,000 worth of work to shore up the floor in order to accommodate the newer, heavier fire trucks.

Washington---A spokesman for the federal agency that monitors clinics that serve uninsured and under-insured patients has no comment on a request by the Kenosha City Council for an investigation of the Kenosha Community Health Center. In an emailed response, Martin Kramer of Health Resources and Services Administration indicated that his agency works with all of the federally-supported clinics in the nation to assure compliance with federal guidelines. Aldermen say they've been snubbed by the KCHC director's refusal to appear before the body to answer questions.

Kenosha---The School Board's agenda for its regularly-scheduled Tuesday night meeting includes more discussion on employee compensation. Board members and teachers alike aren't happy with the unpredictability of the current salary structure in the wake of Act 10. The board is eventually expected to return to a system that rewards educational achievement and length of service.
